Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from UHY Haines Norton

Grant Brownlee

With the Election now behind us and despite the uncertainty of the European debt situation ahead our thoughts are turning to holidays and all the tasks we want to complete in the lead up to Christmas. The prospect of barbeques, baches and boats enjoyed by family and friends is far more appealing to think about than the world’s economic and political woes. While from New Zealand’s perspective 2011 has been dominated by the continuing global economic uncertainty the Rugby World Cup and the election it has also been another busy year on the tax front, UHY Haines Norton Head of Tax, Jim Martin, has written an excellent article summarising the key tax changes that have taken place this year. Other articles look at:

· the tax implications of Christmas parties and gifts

· the rising influence of China on the world economy
