Customers who currently make payments to Inland Revenue by posting cheques need to be aware of an important change. From 1st October 2014, Inland Revenue will need to have actually received your cheque payment on or before the due date to avoid any penalties and interest. Previously customers were able to post cheques on the due date and avoid any penalties and interest, but from October 2014 onwards this will no longer apply. Please ensure that Inland Revenue receives your cheque payment on or before the due date to avoid additional charges.
Payments can still be made online up to and including the due date. Paying online is fast, secure and available 24/7. Most New Zealand banks offer a “pay tax” function for ease of use.
For more information, go to www.ird.govt.nz and search “make a payment”.
