Volcanic Hills Winery Establishes Rotorua’s First Vineyard

Volcanic Hills pic 2Volcanic Hills pic 1UHY Haines Norton client Volcanic Hills Winery has been carving new ground in Rotorua by planting the region’s first ever vineyard.  Run by Larissa (who incidentally is also an ex-UHY staff member) and Brent Park and Sean and Jo Beer, the group have set their sights on supporting the thriving Rotorua tourism industry by planting vines adjacent to the bottom terminal at Skyline Rotorua, where the winery is based.

Rotorua’s unique geography provides a base unlike any other vineyard in the world.  Although frost may prove to be a challenge, Volcanic Hills Winery is keen to trial the grapes, which would provide a yield for a 100% Rotorua wine.

Volcanic Hills Winery was established in 2009, using grapes grown in Hawkes Bay, Marlborough, Central Otago, and Martinborough.   The Volcanic Hills Winery Tasting Room is located at the top of Rotorua’s Skyline Gondola, where visitors can sample their wines whilst enjoying breath-taking 180 degree views of Lake Rotorua.  For more information go to http://www.volcanichills.co.nz/.
