Congratulations to UHY client Nick Nobilo, who has been appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the wine industry. Kumeu-based Nick inherited his father’s ingenuity and skilfulness in winemaking, and can be credited with firmly cementing the family business House of Nobilo’s dominance in the industry. In 1974 Nick produced the country’s first German-style Muller Thurgau, and later pioneered New Zealand’s production of a world-class gewürztraminer. He developed our first true generic wine style by blending Muller Thurgau with Sauvignon Blanc and successfully cornered large export markets in Europe and Asia for the blend. After 54 vintages, Nick maintains his great passion for wine and developing industry innovations. With an extensive list of national and international successes and accolades, he has truly earned the title of pioneer.
