Instagram Changes Targeted At Businesses

instagram-logoWhile we have all heard of Instagram, the photo-sharing app owned by Facebook, very few of us are using it within our businesses as a viable marketing channel. To date in New Zealand it has been small businesses such as bakeries, hair salons and restaurants that have used it successfully to peddle their photographable products and services. Now, however, Instagram is setting its sights on larger and more diverse business sectors including ecommerce, travel and entertainment. The company is adding a range of new features to its app, such as 30-second video ads, landscape-orientation photos and a product called Marquee that expands the reach of your campaign rapidly for a short period and is ideal for activities such as events and product launches.

With 300 million people using Instagram worldwide, it makes sense for businesses to consider tapping into this huge market within their promotional mix. The new features are now available to New Zealand advertisers.

Research company eMarketer has estimated that Instagram’s worldwide ad revenue will be $600 million in 2015 and reach 1.48 billion in 2016.
