When it started

Kahurangi grew up in West Auckland before moving to Hamilton after high school to study at the University of Waikato. After graduating, she began her accounting career in 2010 as a BAS and audit graduate. The role gave her valuable experience across both disciplines, but she soon realised that BAS was where her interests lay. She enjoyed being able to build genuine, long-term relationships with clients, understand their businesses and follow their journey as they developed and grew.

Finding ground at UHY

Kahurangi joined UHY in 2014 after returning to Auckland following the birth of her twins, wanting them to grow up surrounded by family and their community. Working alongside experienced managers and partners, she developed her technical skills while also learning to look beyond the numbers: identifying issues, recognising trends and turning financial information into practical advice that business owners can understand and use.

Building experience across industries

Over the years, Kahurangi has built extensive experience across accounting, taxation, compliance and business advisory, working with a diverse range of clients and industries including farming and agribusiness, earthworks, manufacturing, property investment and rentals. This breadth of experience, together with the guidance and support she received throughout her career at UHY, ultimately helped her progress into the role of Principal. Her approach combines analytical thinking with practical, relationship-focused advice. Whether helping with day-to-day accounting and tax obligations, working through a business issue, or looking ahead to future decisions, Kahurangi focuses on turning complex financial information into clear, practical guidance that gives clients greater confidence in their decisions.

From information to action

For Kahurangi, accounting is about more than balancing books or meeting tax deadlines. She enjoys the detail behind the numbers and the bigger picture behind every business. Her strength lies in making sense of financial information, asking the right questions and helping clients understand what their numbers are telling them, what they need to think about now and what may be coming next. She also likes providing hands-on training and guidance, helping clients better understand their accounting systems and processes rather than simply focusing on data entry and compliance.

Beyond balancing the books

As a Māori woman, Kahurangi's identity is an important part of who she is and how she approaches relationships. She values trust, respect, genuine connections and working alongside people, taking the time to understand not only the business, but also the person behind it and what matters to them. Outside of work, family keeps Kahurangi busy. Her twins are involved in league and rugby during winter and touch over summer, so most weekends you'll find her on the sidelines of a sports field somewhere around Auckland. When she isn't at sport, she enjoys spending time with family and heading out of town to catch up with relatives.
